Runway – Safety – Shelter

At an aeromodelling club, the runway, safety, and shelter form the core elements that ensure smooth, enjoyable, and secure flying activities. The runway serves as the main operational zone where model aircraft take off and land; it is typically a flat, well-maintained surface made of grass, asphalt, or compacted soil, oriented to align with prevailing winds for optimal performance. Surrounding the runway, strict safety measures are implemented to protect both pilots and spectators. These include clearly marked flight lines, designated pilot and spectator zones, safety nets or barriers, fire extinguishers, and adherence to flying protocols that prevent overflying of people or the pit area. Adjacent to the active flying zone, a shelter area provides a comfortable and functional space for pilots to assemble, repair, and prepare their models. Usually shaded and equipped with tables, benches, and storage facilities, this area also serves as a social hub where members can rest and exchange knowledge between flights. Together, the runway, safety systems, and shelter create a well-organized environment that balances technical operation, safety discipline, and community spirit within the aeromodelling club.
